Swapnil Desai, 24, a Vashi resident, has developed a unique software, which he claims will enable computer users to execute all works through voice commands, without touching the mouse or keyboard. Interestingly, the software boasts of a unique feature that accepts all Indian English accents.

Called the Articulating Commanding Software, Desai adds that this newly-developed Java-based software is the world’s first Indian accent speech recognition software.

Desai, who is graduated in BSc in CS (Computer Science) from Mumbai University with a first class and completed post-graduation in MSc in CS from Pune University in 2013 with a first class and a grade ‘O’(outstanding), says the software is as simple as ‘You say & your computer listens”.

To accomplish what he has, Desai took some 11 months worth of research, and it has received an overwhelming response on YouTube and Facebook, along with other social media websites.

“In just one month, the YouTube video received 3,000 plus hits and over 125 likes,” said an enthusiastic Desai, adding, “It has received 300 plus likes on Facebook.” People have been lauding his work through these projects and are offering him opportunities, but he desires to standout in the crowd and is passionate about  innovating.

About a year-and-a-half ago, Desai first decided to develop a software to help users work on their laptops or PCs without having to use a mouse, a keyboard or a voice-recognition software.

“For one-and-a-half-years, I worked on my computer, and when my mouse took a hit, it took me around four hours to manage to find a new mouse to continue my work,” recalls Desai. That’s when he started working on his software. By then, Desai had already completed his masters and was freelancing as a software developer to manage his day-to-day needs.

“I showcased the demonstration video to IT experts and professionals and they applauded my work,” says Desai, who aims to make his software available to all computer users to boost their productivity. “I do not want to stop here, in fact, I want to take this innovation to the next level with industry experts,” said Desai.

Desai adds that the most essential aspect of this software is that it easily accepts user-friendly Indian English accent. “Voice recognition software have been around for some time and it is not new to seasoned computer users. But the problem with them is that they only recognise or accept foreign accents. Owing to this, hardly anyone uses this speech-enabled application,” claims Desai, adding, “But Articulating Commanding Software understands Indian/Neutral/Asian English accent. Secondly, this speech recognition software is user customizable, which means it can be converted into the way a user wants it to be. Like, it works for Google, MS-Office, Facebook, to name a few, but if someone uses only MS-Word, then it can turn it to only an MS-Office application, as per one’s requirement.”

Desai adds that being platform independent, the software can be supported by any known operating system —Windows, Linux or Android.” All computer, web applications and any other software can be easily handled using one’s voice, which let people spend more of their energy working and creating, rather than clicking or typing. Accompanying this software to your regular ones, it can boost its performance and productivity.”

Currently, Desai is promoting and marketing the software. “To take this initiative to the next level with the help of industry experts. I will be happy if any reputed company offers me a platform to develop this software,” concludes Desai.
