Slum-dwellers are set to get bigger houses, under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority development.

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has approved the decision of giving 270 sqft of carpet house against the earlier 225 sqft. Under SRA, the developers will avail the Floor Space Index (FSI) of 3. "The condition is that the SRA projects should be approved before June 11, 2008 and the project construction should be completed up to the plinth level. If there is no plinth-level construction, then the developers will not avail the higher FSI and slum dwellers will not get the house," said Chavan.

Anand Gupta, spokesperson of the Builder Association of India, welcomed the state government's decision. "There were many projects which were stuck for a long time. They were waiting for this decision and clarity over it. Now, construction will commence and people will get bigger houses," he said.
