A six-year-old boy died shortly after collapsing in his school premises here on Thursday. Swarang Dalvi, a class 1 student of Pawar Public School in Chandivali, was playing with his friends during a short break around 10.10am outside his classroom on the second floor when he suddenly collapsed.

Swarang's classmates soon alerted the school authorities who took them to the medical room in the school. The doctor who examined him suggested that the boy be taken to a hospital as he was not responding. He was then moved to Hiranandani hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

School officials said the incident was shocking as the child had no medical history and looked fine in the morning.

"We are shocked and saddened. He was playing with other children outside their classroom when he collapsed. We took him to a hospital immediately," said Dr Madhura Phadke, Principal of Pawar Public School.

Confirming the incident, the Saki Naka police said the CCTV camera footage showed Dalvi standing while playing a game and suddenly collapsing.

"We have registered a case of accidental death. We have not found anything suspicious, but we are carrying out an investigation and are awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death," said N D Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 10.

Parents and relatives of Swarang were also in a state of shock as the child did not have any medical history. "We are extremely shocked, but we don't any allegation against the school," said his father Ratnadeep, a music teacher with the Bhandup branch of the school.

Hiranandani hospital spokespersons declined to respond to DNA's queries, stating they had provided all the necessary information to the school.
