The dacoity and assault case, in which a businessman was attacked and robbed in his Juhu bungalow, is solved, the Juhu police have said. A gang of dacoits had barging into the bungalow last month, allegedly attacking the senior citizen, tying up five of his domestic helps and decamping with booty worth Rs2.23 lakh. The police have arrested six people, including one of the domestic helps.

Those arrested have been identified as Shankar Kale, Dadya Kale, Sunil Shinde, Ambadas Shinde, Prakash Patil and Sarvan Das. Das was working for the victim and had allegedly tipped off to his associates, the police said.
The incident took place between 2am and 2.50am on July 31 at Jai Mata Kutir Bungalow Number R-371 on Gandhi Gram Road at Juhu beach.

According to the police, six unknown people had entered the bungalow by breaking open the main gate latch. The dacoits had then attacked complainant Harishchandra Mishra (69) with a sickle on both his hands. They had then tied up five the domestic helps and decamped with three mobile phones, 45 grams of gold ornaments and watches. Mishra was taken to a private hospital and discharged after treatment.

"The probe revealed that the gang from Osmanabad had recently come to Mumbai to commit crime. Based on this information, on August 15, we picked up Shankar, Dadya and Sunil, all history-sheeters with criminal records in Osmanabad. Their interrogation led to the arrests of the others the same day," said an officer.

The police are on the lookout for five more people allegedly involved in this crime. "Das, who was in need of money, had tipped off the gang members about the cash and valuables kept in the bungalow. We have seized the sickle, cutter and sticks used in the crime and also recovered booty worth Rs56,000," the officer said.

The arrested were produced before a local court, which remanded them in police custody till August 20. The police are now probing whether the gang had committed similar offences in Mumbai.
