Six held for beating thief to death in Nalasopara

The Valiv police have arrested six persons who were part of a group that caught a thief and beat him up to death on Sunday.

The body of the man was found abandoned in the busy residential area of Gavripada in Nalasopara, Monday morning. The police said a postmortem revealed that the man died after he was assaulted.

The deceased was named as Ismail Ali Khan. The 26-year-old was caught red-handed after he broke into a house along with an associate. The accomplice managed to escape.

The six arrested for the assault have been charged with murder. A seventh person is absconding, the police said.

"We have arrested six persons under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and one person is absconding. Investigations are continuing," said, Dinesh Tayde, assistant inspector, Valiv police station.

The police said the thief has other cases against him at various police stations.

"Ali Khan was also involved in theft cases in Vasai-Virar. The locals caught him when he broke into the house and beat him till he died," a police official said.
