Shutting door, air hostess falls 20-feet off aircraft at Mumbai airport

A routine procedure of shutting an aircraft door took at nasty turn for Air India cabin crew Harsha Lobo who fell off the Boeing 777 at the Mumbai airport on Monday. Lobo, 53, was aboard a Mumbai-Delhi Air India-864 flight when at around 6.10 am, she fell straight 20-feet down on the tarmac and sustained injuries, including a leg fracture.

The incident occurred soon after all procedure regarding passengers boarding was complete and the flight was prepping to depart. After she was checked by doctors of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), she was shifted to Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle for further treatment. The flight was also delayed by an hour due to the mishap.

"She fell while closing the door of Boeing 777 ER and was later admitted to Nanavati Hospital. The matter is under investigation," said a spokesperson for Air India.

Meanwhile, Dr Rajendra Patankar, COO, Nanavati Hospital, said, "The patient is suffering compound fracture on her right leg. There is a fracture in both heels and soft tissue injury in chest, abdomen and lower spine."
