Shiv Sena won't be a part of non BJP front in Maharashtra. Instead, the saffron party has hinted that it has already launched a massive organisational build up to go solo in the ensuing Lok Sabha and state assembly elections. Shiv Sena has down played call by the Nationalist Congress Party for Maha Aghadi (grand alliance) to defeat BJP. At the same time, Shiv Sena clarified that the party cannot associate with Congress in such an alliance due to strong ideological differences.

Shiv Sena also indicated that the party, which is currently sharing power with BJP at the Centre and in Maharashtra, is not in a hurry to get out of the government but continue to play the role of effective opposition by taking up several issues faced by the cross sections of the society. Shiv Sena's move comes close on the heels of BJP national president Amit Shah's two-hour long meeting with party president Uddhav Thackeray for continuation of alliance in the state. However, Shiv Sena unilaterally announced that the party, which lost the Palghar by poll to BJP, will fight it independently in 2019, declaring its resolve to win it.

Shiv Sena Harshal Pradhan told DNA, "Shiv Sena will continue to be a part of the BJP led government for the sake of stable government. However, despite being in power, the party will continue to fight for common man, farmers, women, and other sections." He alleged that the opposition's plan to form mega front is a political ploy to destablise the government and Shiv Sena will not associate with it.

Another Shiv Sena leader reminded that party had contested Lok Sabha elections in an alliance with BJP and had won 18 seats. However, Sena bagged 63 seats in state assembly poll after BJP severed its alliance.
"Thackeray has reiterated that party will go alone in all polls which means it will have no truck with BJP or any other parties," he noted.

Mumbai Regional Congress Committee president Sanjay Nirupam also ruled out any possibility of Shiv Sena's inclusion in the proposed anti-BJP front. "Shiv Sena and Congress are two different poles; therefore, it can't become a part of the mega alliance."

On the other hand, Nirupam and state Congress president Ashok Chavan alleged that Sena is desperate for power and it has lost trust of the people.
