After getting into a war with rival Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) over launching of WiFi services in Dadar's Shivaji Park, the Shiv Sena is now planning to launch the service at select spots in south Mumbai. The party will also lend its voice to the demand of women to be allowed the right to worship in the sanctums of the Shani Shingnapur temple and the Mahalaxmi temple in Kolhapur.

"We will launch free WiFi services at eight spots in south Mumbai," said Sena's vibhag pramukh Pandurang Sakpal, adding that these locations would include Chira Bazaar, Fort, Dhobi Talao, Girgaum, Khetwadi, Colaba, Maccchimar Nagar and Colaba market. These spots have been chosen due to the presence of the youth. The move is expected to help the Sena reach out to young voters before the civic polls due early next year.

The OTP-based service will be launched in collaboration with a local cable service provider and will be inaugurated by Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray on Gudi Padwa (Friday), after the party's morning rally for the Hindu New Year.

The rally from Girgaon to Princess Street has a Jagar Streeshakticha (awakening women power) theme and will see participation of 75 women on motorcycles, and a lezim troupe of 150 women, apart from a men lezim troupe and dabbawalas.

The Sena will also have a 25-feet replica of Godddess Mahalaxmi idol at Kolhapur and another one of the Shani Temple inShingnapur in Ahmednagar district. "Everyone has similar rights, God is for all," said Sakpal.

The Sena will also gift a hamper containing a frock, diapers, soaps, oil and baby powder to all girls born in south Mumbai, with Shiv Sainiks locating these newborns in hospitals and maternity homes.

In 2014, Sena and MNS were locked in a battle of competitive populism over claiming credit for setting up a WiFi network at Dadar's the Shivaji Park, which houses the Maharashtrian cultural elite. The MNS had also launched a similar WiFi service at another Maharashtrian stronghold, Vile Parle (E).
