A group of Shiv Sena MPs are soon slated to meet party president Uddhav Thackeray to seek clarity on its alliance for 2019 polls with BJP. The lawmakers are anxious to know whether the party sticks to its 'go solo' stand as decided in the national executive or yield to BJP's pressure tactics. It is notable that Shiv Sena in 2014 fought the Loksabha polls in an alliance and emerged victorious in 18 seats riding on the Modi wave. Many of the MPs insist that party should ally with BJP or be ready for a washout. However, MPs hinted that they will abide by Thackeray's decision.

There are also voices among MPs who feel otherwise. They feel the party shouldn't strike any pre-poll truck with BJP as this may marginalise the regional party further.

The MPs reportedly were unable to decipher Thackeray's decisions to abstain during voting on opposition sponsored no-confidence motion against Modi government, and later on vote in support of NDA candidate Harivansh in the election to the post of Rajya Sabha deputy chairman.

Sena MP, who did not want to be identified, told DNA,'' Party President needs to put the issue to rest. It will help us to step up poll preparations.''

Another MP referred to a statement by Akali Dal MP Naresh Gujaral on the occasion of a book launch last week that Shiv Sena will stay with NDA provided the saffron party doesn't demand more seats with BJP especially in Maharashtra. ''BJP has emerged on top practically in all elections held to the civic and local bodies in Maharashtra which took place after November 2014. There was hardly any alliance between BJP and Shiv Sena. So the party needs to weigh how can it gain with a tie-up,'' he viewed.

However, he argued that Shiv Sena needs to make all-out efforts to take on BJP and win more seats if the party remains firm on its resolve to go solo. Despite expressing their reservations on party's stand no MP wished to come on record on the issue.
