The Trombay police have recorded the statement of constable Vikas Thorbole, who was seriously injured during the Shiv Sena-MNS clash in the wee hours of April 24, Lok Sabha elections' polling day.

Thorbole's statement could come as a huge relief to newly elected member of Parliament Rahul Shewale's wife Kamini, who was booked for attempt to murder and rioting in the case.

Thorbole, in his statement, has given a clean chit to Kamini and others by saying he was injured in the stone-pelting and was not deliberately attacked by any of the party members.

Senior inspector of Trombay police station Vijay Kadam said, "A few days back, we recorded Thorbole's statement. As he is still unable to talk, he gave his statement in writing, as per which he was hit by a piece of glass when the window of a car broke during the stone-pelting due to which he was seriously injured."

In the wee hours of April 24, the Trombay police received information about a Scorpio car bearing MNS sticker distributing money in Maharashtra Nagar in Trombay. They sent a team to verify the information. When the police were checking the car, a crowd, allegedly led by Kamini Shewale, reached the spot. Fearing things would go out of hand, an officer asked Thorbole to get the car to the police station. But as soon as Thorbole got into the vehicle, the crowd started pelting stones on it. Thorbole was seriously injured, with his food and wind pipe getting damaged, and taken to Joy Hospital.
