Shiv Sena ministers, MPs, MLAs along with city mayor Snehal Ambekar visited Deonar on Monday to take stock of the situation and demanded closure of the dumping ground.

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) also seems to have struck the sensitive chord and have also taken up the issue. They have also started mounting pressure on the civic administration to close the dumping ground. With this development and to gain political milegae, even Sena has jumped in and have started demanding the closure of the dumpyard.

Earlier, Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam had demanded that the dumping ground should be shut and no garbage should be dumped there anymore. Recently, Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar and MP Kirit Somaiyya had visited the dumping ground with other BJP leaders and senior corporators, including Manoj Kotak, BJP leader in the BMC.

Ramdas Kadam, state environment minister from Shiv Sena, alleged that the BJP has started playing games on the name of dumping ground. "Do BJP leaders have any role in Deonar fire. Are Shelar or Somaiyya behind the frequent fire," questioned Kadam after visiting the dumpy yard. "Let inquiry be initiated and let the truth come out," he added.

"Even if the mayor, chairman of standing committee and environment minister are from Sena, appointment of municipal commissioner is done by the chief minister, who is from BJP. If civic chief is unable to take measures for controlling fire, then our government is good for nothing," said Kadam, adding that this is clear cut case of sabotage and BJP has definitely something to do with the contractor.

He also replied to the allegation made by BJP about the corruption in Deonar contract. "If the mayor is from Sena, deputy mayor is from the BJP. How can they allege of corruption while they are our partner in power. They should be ashamed of making such statement," said Kadam.

Sena leaders have demanded that inquiry should be handed over the CID to bring out the real truth that who is behind the fire.
