Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackrey was present in city on Wednesday as Thane's Press Association had organised an event on Reporters Day, which is a state event, and Sena supremo was invited as the chief guest.

Along with many senior journalists, guardian minister Eknath Shinde, MLA Pratap Sarnaik, city Mayor Sanjay More and other dignitaries were also present at the event. While many journalists were awarded for their contribution in shaping the state, Thackeray applauded the efforts and batted for several facilities to be given to the fraternity. "When it is about progress and development, then we are always there. We have helped farmers and many others in time of need, but we cannot tolerate injustice being done to anyone. I am fortunate to be born in the Thackrey family and would everything to keep dignity intact," Thackeray said

Speaking on the current situation of farmers suicide, he said, "Development of Vidarbha is a priority and farmers, too, should not commit suicide. Maharashtra should not be divided if comprehensive growth is required," he added.
