Comparing Shiv Sena with a small demon making too much of a noise, BJP city unit president Ashish Shelar on Wednesday said that BJP's "Lord Krishna", chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, would ensure that this demon was bottled during the ensuing Mumbai civic polls. Both Shelar and CM Fadnavis expressed confidence that the BJP would fulfill its dream of coming to power in Mumbai.

Besides, the BJP state unit also announced re-appointment of Shelar as its president. Fadnavis, along with ministers Vinod Tawde, Chandrakant Patil and Ram Shinde, BJP national joint organising secretary V Satish and state unit organising secretary Ravindra Bhusari were present for the announcement.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going for polls in February 2017.

Narrating a post-Mahabharata war tale, in which Lord Krishna bottles a demon to help the five helpless Pandavas, Shelar said he was confident that Fadnavis would bottle the demon. While narrating the story, he said the demon was very small and hidden in the grass, but knew evil magic and made much noise.

While Shelar never directly referred to the Sena, the entire audience knew who he was talking about, and responded with a huge applause. Expressing confidence that he would fulfill the unfulfilled dream in BMC, Shelar said he has been re-appointed for this purpose only and he would make sure that the party showed its strength in coming elections. He asked the party workers to use newer tools, including the social media and latest modes of communication, while ensuring booth-level voting.

CM Fadnavis expressed confidence that the BJP would win Mumbai corporation under Shelar's leadership. He said the party workers should convey it to Mumbaikars that all projects, including Metro, Trans-harbour link, Coastal Road and Navi Mumbai airport, would be completed by the BJP government, which would change the face of the city.

In her speech, BJP MLA Manisha Chaudhari said the party would win more than 114 seats in the ensuing BMC elections. After the function, however, Shelar said the BJP has not set any target and the decision to continue the alliance with Sena will be taken by Fadnavis and BJP state unit president Raosaheb Danve. He also made it clear that he has not compared any particular leader of any party with the demon.
