"It became difficult for Rai's (Shyamvar) wife to stay in the locality after her husband was picked up in a case that went on to become the most talked about news for months. A few days after Rai's arrest, his wife and her children left their rented house and settled somewhere else," said neighbours of Shyamvar Rai, who was picked up by the Khar police in an illegal possession of weapons case in August, last year. Rai later spilled the beans on the murder mystery of 24-year -old Sheena Bora, which went on to become headlines for months to follow.

Rai, a driver by profession, stayed with his family in a small room in a maze locality of Gaondevi Mosambi Tabela near Dutt Mandir Road in Vakola.

On Monday, the Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court accepted the plea of Rai to be made an approver in the case. On May 11, Rai, who is currently lodged in Arthur Road Jail, had sought pardon from judge HS Mahajan and pleaded to be made an approver. In his two-page application he said he wants to "disclose all truths" of the murder plot. On June 6, the CBI filed their reply in court and said it has no objection in making him an approver.

When this correspondent visited Rai's residence on Monday, the neighbours said that Rai's family had left the locality a few days after the arrest. The residence of Rai's brother, who stays in the same locality, was found locked.

Although the family stayed as tenants in the locality, the locals still remember Rai as the person who was involved in a "high-profile murder case". "After Chintu (few people know him by his pet name) was picked up, the police people visited regularly this slums," said one of the drivers, staying in the same locality.
