BJP leader Shaina NC met Dawoodi Bohra community leader Shehzada Qaid Zoherbhaisaheb last week along with BJP's south Mumbai candidates. Shaina NC's effort intends to bridge the gap between candidates and the 10 lakh plus strong community in various areas of Mumbai and Thane.

At least 35,000 Dawoodi Bohra Muslim voters reside in south Mumbai. The candidates that met Shehzada Qaid Zoherbhaisaheb, who is the elder brother of present Sayedna, and is also in-charge of Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) is seen as a positive sign for the party.

The Bohra community, on the other hand is looking for cooperation from public representatives regarding various civic issues like redevelopment of old and dilapidated buildings and betterment of amenities in Bohra mohallas.

Atul Shah, Akash Rajpurohit, Yojana Dhokale, Harshita Narwekar along with other BJP candidates from south Mumbai met the leader with Shaina NC. Sources said that large parts of Atul Shah's ward, Akash Purohit's ward and even high-rise buildings in Colaba and Cuffe Parade areas have Dawoodi Bohra Muslim voters.

Shaina NC, who plays an important role in bridging the gap between the candidates and the community through their leaders said that Dawoodi Bohra Muslims have a long standing association with PM Narendra Modi ever since he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

"Bohra community's relationship with BJP is not alien. The party has been doing good work and helping the community whenever they are in need. They appreciate the good work done by the party," said Shaina, who was visiting Masjid Bunder and Abdul Rehman Street for campaigning on Monday with candidate Akash Rajpurohit.

Quresh Kothari, treasurer at Najmi Masjid on Abdul Rehman Street said that the only expectation from the candidate who will win is that basic civic amenities be upgraded in the area. "At least seven out of ten Dawoodi Bohra Muslims either run a business or are in trading. They are financially strong, so we do not need monetary help for food and clothing, but civic issues are something that we as citizens cannot handle. We need our representatives to raise these issues and address them to make our lives better," said Kothari.
