Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan on Tuesday said Mumbai can become a media and entertainment hub of the country and sought the Maharashtra government's intervention to be the facilitator with the establishment of the single-window system, simplification of procedures and early clearances for film shooting, distribution and setting up of single-screen theatres and multiplexes. He was speaking at the session on ''Media: Shaping the future of information and entertainment,'' at the concluding day of Maharashtra Summit.

Shahrukh also advocated that India can rule the world through soft power. '' We have talent, content, audience, youth and technology but need some facilitation. We will rule the world through soft power. For that dream needs to be bigger and the vision to be larger,'' he noted. He suggested that media, entertainment world, content providers and creators can work together in rapidly changing the digital world.

Shahrukh however, said despite Bollywood and largest film production made annually, India was not able to produce a single film or a superhero which can rule the world. '' There is a most encouraging market under our nose. We can grow and go global. We have to dress up Indian content, make changes in acting and films should be short and without any interval,'' he opined.

Shahrukh said India has 1.25 billion people, active population and the country. He emphasized the need for organization of entertainment sector wherein the country can achieve the pace of China or Korea in the establishment of single-screen theatres and multiplexes and cater to the needs of the audience. ''We should organise to do business with full capacity,'' he noted.

Referring to the recent controversy over Padmaavat film across the country, Shahrukh said films are not by and large made to divide people or hurt feelings. He said that despite certain voices raised by a section of the society, film producers will not deter but they will continue to make films.
