Sexually abused for 2 decades, 45-yr-old help breaks silence

A 45-year-old woman has alleged that she was being raped and harassed by her employer for almost 26 years after she was caught stealing a watch worth Rs 200. The Gamdevi police have registered a case of rape against the accused based on her complaint.

According to the complaint filed by the woman, she started working as a domestic help in the Gamdevi house of the accused in 1992. The accused saw her taking the watch but after she apologised, he began sexually assaulting her and threatened to register a police case against her if she resisted. The woman has alleged in her complaint that the accused did so repeatedly for over two decades. She has also stated that in this period, the accused impregnated her at least thrice but arranged for the prenancies to be terminated each time with the help of his relatives. She also stated that two sisters of the accused too would assault her.

Following the complaint, the Gamdevi police have registered a case of rape and sexual harassment against the siblings and a doctor who the woman claimed aborted the child, said the police.

"We have registered a case against all of them and we are in the process of verifying the statements made by the woman. She was working at the house of the accused as domestic help. Our probe is on and necessary action would be taken against the accused," said Netaji Bhupale, Senior Police Inspector, Gamdevi Police Station.
