The RAK Marg police have not been able to make any breakthrough in the case of firing on a 40-year-old small time businessman in the area of Sewree on Saturday night. The unknown assailants came on a motorbike and fired one round at the victim, before fleeing.

According to the RAK Marg police, the victim has been identified as Pramod Kamtekar, a small time screen printer, with a shop in Byculla. On Saturday at around 9:30 pm, Kamtekar was on his way back home on his scooter when two unknown men on a motorcycle, who were allegedly tailing him, fired one round at him near Mahajani Path at Sewree.

He was hit on his back, and the assailants fled from the spot. Kamtekar collapsed on the spot and was rushed to KEM hospital. Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Vijay Bagwe said that the cops were informed of the firing by the locals, after which a team of police rushed to the spot.

"We have recovered one bullet shell from the scene of crime and have sent it to the forensic department to ascertain the weapon used," Bagwe added. According to the police, Kamtekar has neither a criminal record, nor any connection with the underworld. The police suspect personal enmity behind him being attacked.

"We have formed four teams, which have been put on the job to crack this case as soon as possible. We are also examining CCTV footage of the route that was taken by Kamtekar, but till now, there have been no leads," the ACP said.

The RAK Marg police have also recorded the statement of Kamtekar's brother and his wife, with whom he lived in a flat near Sewree naka. "There is nothing that has come up in the statement of the brother and his wife. According to them, Kamtekar had no enemies, but we are investigating the case from all angles," said Bagwe.

Dr Avinash Supe, dean of KEM Hospital informed: "Kamtekar was operated last night and the bullet was removed from his body. He has injured his chest, liver and intestines. He is stable, but critical and under observation."
