The administrative office of SevenHills Hospital in Marol has been sealed by BMC after the hospital failed to pay property tax amounting to Rs 9 crore. The hospital featured on the undisputed property tax defaulters’ list and was also served a 21-day notice to pay the dues. However, the multi-speciality hospital spread over 17 acres of BMC land failed to comply with the notice after which the administrative office was sealed by the civic officials on February 28.

The property tax dues of the hospital is not for the last financial year but a total of dues over the last few years. “We have not stopped any operations of the medical facility and only shut the administrative office. It is action taken for non-payment of taxes and as soon as the hospital pays the arrears, the office can resume work,” said Devidas Khirsagar, head of assessment and collection department of BMC.

When DNA visited the hospital on Friday, the hospital premises hardly had patients or visitors coming in. The out-patient department was shut and only casualty/emergency section was open.

No one from the hospital administration was available for comment.
