A youth was arrested for allegedly raping a minor in Ulwe on Sunday.
According to the police, the seven-year-old girl was playing alone around 1.30pm outside her home at Ulwe village. Her father was at work, while mother was busy with household chores. Taking advantage, Vishwajit Singh, 25, called the girl to his room and allegedly raped her.
“Singh is a native of Bihar and was staying with his elder brother for the last few months. They stay in a rented room in the same vicinity as that of the victim. His brother was at home when Singh committed the crime,” said Anil Behrani, assistant police inspector of NRI police station.
After the incident, the girl rushed home and told her mother. When the girl’s mother confronted Singh, he pleaded ignorance about it and spoke to her rudely.
“The victim’s mother registered a complaint around 4.30pm and within a few hours Singh was arrested,” Behrani added. He has been booked under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 4 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. He was produced before the judicial court on Monday.
“The accused has not confessed to the crime so far. We have not found any criminal record of him,” another police officer from NRI police station said.
On Friday, a five-year-old was allegedly raped by a 12-year-old at Bhokarpada village of Khalapur taluka in Raigad district. Both stayed in the same locality and studied in the same school. During school hour, the accused raped the girl near the school toilet. The Rasayini police arrested the boy and sent him to a remand home.
