Seven-year-old becomes police inspector for a day

Mehak, a native of Pratapgadh in Uttar Pradesh, is suffering from osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, which was diagnosed when she was only five.

Bhoiwada police station was different on February 13, when hierarchy, ranks and designation were ignored for sometime. On Friday, an entire team of over twenty officers took orders from not their officer but seven-year-old Mehak Singh, who was allowed to take charge of Bhoiwada police station for a day.

Mehak, a native of Pratapgadh in Uttar Pradesh, is suffering from osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, which was diagnosed when she was only five. Vinay Singh, Mehak’s father talking to iamin said that she is very strong mentally and always harboured the wish to see how a police station functions and her wish got fulfilled. While being treated at Tata Memorial Hospital in South Mumbai, Mehak had expressed this wish to the team of oncologists treating her. They immediately contacted the NGO Make-A-Wish-Foundation, which got in touch with Bhoiwada police officers, who were more than happy to fulfil the wish of the child.

The team of officers, led by senior police inspector Sunil Tondwalkar greeted her at the gates of the station and escorted her to her seat.

A delighted Mehak said, "It was great fun to be commanding the policemen, who were extremely friendly. I wholeheartedly thank them for this opportunity and now I can proudly claim that I have’ powerful friends." Mehak  is currently living with her relatives in Titwala and will return to her village in Uttar Pradesh on February 15.
