The Mumbai Fire Brigade has identified at least seven spots along the beaches of the city which are dangerous to visit especially during the monsoon. The three school children on Saturday drowned at one of these spots. The lifeguards, too, could not rescue the kids as the sea is deep and rocky in nature.

"The seven dangerous spots on the city's beaches are high-risk spots for lifeguards as well. They have a chance of losing their lives if they venture into the sea. They may hit the rocks if they jump," said Prabhat Rahangdale, chief fire officer of BMC. The seven spots are the entire seafront of Nariman Point, Dadar Chowpatty to Hinduja Hospital in Mahim, Bandstand in Bandra, Juhu Koliwada, Gorai, the seafront of Priyadarshani Park and Haji Ali in Mahalaxmi.

Rahangdale said that it is not possible to depute lifeguards at these places. "We have already warned visitors to not venture into the sea at these places, and maximum cases of drowning are reported from these places," said Rahangdale.

There are six beaches in the city—Juhu, Versova, Girgaum, Aksa, Gorai and Dadar where residents visit to enjoy the monsoons.

However, during high tide, these places prove to be dangerous for visitors.

"We make sure to deploy additional lifeguards during monsoon to avoid any untoward incident. However, we need support from visitors. They should not venture into the sea during high tide and also stay away from the shore," added the fire chief.
