Seven killed in an accident on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

Dhonde family, who have settled in Koparkhairane in Navi Mumbai, were returning from Dhondewadi in Satara. The SUV was so badly mangled that getting the victims out of it was difficult.

Seven members of a family in Koparkhairane were killed in an accident near Lodhivai village on Pune Mumbai expressway on Monday. The accident occurred as the tyre of the Toyota Qualis burst and the car jumped lane, crashed on to a dumper, used in a construction site, coming in from opposite direction. The Dhonde family was returning from their native place in Satara after the Ganpati celebrations.

The impact of the accident was such that the it was difficult for the resuce teams to get the victims out of it was difficult. Local social worker Gurunath Sathelkar rushed to the accident spot and managed to rescue Pratik Dhonde (16) and Pooja Dhonde (15).

The deceased include Dharmaraj Dhonde, Vedant Dhonde, Sunita Dhonde, Ashwini Dhonde, Shubham Pawar, Sakhubai Pawar and Chitra Dhonde. The injured are being treated at MGM Hospital in Vashi.
