Rains on Thursday led to another spate of portions of buildings collapsing and tree-falls that left four injured around the city. While a portion of a Mhada-owned building collapsed at Bakri Adda in Byculla, grievously injuring two labourers, a tree branch fall at Mahim injured a senior citizen, while another person in Kurla sustained injuries after a part of his building collapsed.

In the Byculla incident, the five-storeyed building was already in a dilapidated condition and residents informed they had complained to Mhada several times, but in vain.

"For the last two years, they had put bamboo sticks around the house, but no further work was carried out," Dhyandeo Bandal, a resident said.

The two injured — Suraj Sharma, 24, and Ram Karan, 18, were taken to Nair hospital in a critical condition. "They are in a serious state and the casualty medical officers were trying to stabilise them... we are trying our best to mitigate their health," said Dr Ramesh Bharmal, dean, Nair hospital.

Shantibai, 72, was injured after a tree branch fell on her in Mahim, while Irbat Khan, 36, was left injured after a portion of his five-storeyed building collapsed in Kurla.
