With the Sept/Oct exams fast approaching, the State Board has requested students to avoid filling up exam forms at the last minute, and schools to avoid giving students wrong subject code.

The number of students appearing for the Sept/Oct exam are less compared to last year, board officials said, adding that that happened because of the good results in the 2014 Feb/March examinations.

How many are appearing for Sept/Oct exam?
The number of students who have registered for the exam this year from Maharashtra are 1,37,902 in SSC, and 95,832 in HSC. From Mumbai, 25,740 SSC students and 27,091 HSC students have registered.

Why fill up forms early?
To avoid last-minute scramble, problems, etc. Laxmikant Pande, chairman, Mumbai Divisional Board, said: "Though students can fill up exam forms to appear for October and March examinations till the day before the examination begins, we appeal to students to avoid that. And schools should avoid sending wrong subject codes (of students) and pre-list as that would lead to problems."

Last year, during the Sept/Oct exam, board officials had had to make arrangements to send just one German language question paper on a flight for a student in Mumbai. That student, however, didn't turn up for the exam.
"We are here to help students and schools, but they should cooperate with the board," Pande added.

Can FYJC students appear for the exam?
Yes, they can. Students who are now in First Year Junior College (FYJC) and have ATKT (Allow to Keep Term) also have the opportunity to write Sept/Oct exam and clear papers to be eligible for HSC next year.
