Separate freak accidents across Mumbai claim three lives

Three people, including a two-year-old girl lost their lives in separate incidents across the city. Two of them became victim of a road accident, while the third died due to electrocution.

A 2-year old girl, identified as Vidhi Singh, was crushed under the wheels of a container at Tagore Nagar in Vikhroli on Monday night. According to the police, Singh, who was a resident of a nearby chawl, inched towards the road while playing.

She was knocked down by the container's front wheel and got crushed by its rear wheels. A police officer informed that seeing the freak accident, the locals of the area began protesting on the road, and blocked traffic from proceeding.

"The accused driver Sheshkumar Verma was locked inside a room by the locals. We intervened and detained him before the things could get out of control," the officer added.

In another fatal incident, a 12-year-old boy lost his life in Sion after a dumper hit the motorcycle on which he was riding pillion with a relative.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Aditya Velkar, was on his way to Chaitanya Bhumi in Dadar from Bhandup to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

As the bike reached the South bound bridge near Highway Apartment in Sion, a dumper dashed the motorcycle, leaving Velkar seriously injured.

"The boy was rushed to the Sion hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors," said an officer from Sion police. The driver of the dumper, Mohanlal Vishwakarma has been arrested by the police.

In the third freak accident, a 22-year-old man lost his life after he was electrocuted when he came in contact with an iron rod while offering prayers at a function organised for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth anniversary.

According to the Pant Nagar police, the deceased has been identified as Akash Gurav. He had come to DB Pawar Chowk along with his brother to offer his prayer to Dr Ambedkar. There, he came in contact with an iron rod that was connected to wires of the music system, and was electrocuted.

Gurav was rushed to Rajawadi hospital where he was declared dead before admission. "We have arrested two people for negligence and are investigating the case further," said an officer from Pant Nagar police.
