Senior citizen threatened, robbed at knifepoint in Borivli home

The Borivli police are on the lookout for an unknown man who allegedly entered the residence of a senior citizen on Tuesday evening posing as an employee of a gas agency, threatened him with a knife, tied him using a rope and robbed valuables worth Rs40,000.

The complainant and victim, Shreedhar Bhaate (64), is a resident of Chandramukhi Building on Talepakhadi Road in Borivli (W).

According to the police, on Tuesday morning, Bhaate's son and daughter-in-law had left for work. Around 3.15pm, a person rang the doorbell of Bhaate's third-floor residence.

"When Bhaate opened the door, the man claimed that he was an employee of a gas agency and wanted to get a form for gas connection filled. The man then barged in and threatened Bhaate with a knife," said an officer from the Borivli police station.

He added that the accused then tied Bhaate using a plastic rope and decamped with a gold chain worth Rs20,000 and two gold rings worth Rs10,000 each that Bhaate was wearing. "After Bhaate managed to free himself, the matter was reported to the police. We are probing the incident from all angles," the officer said.
