Senior citizen duped of Rs 8 lakh in online job scam

The Nehru Nagar police in Kurla are probing a case wherein a 62-year-old man was duped for Rs 8 lakh promising a job in a reputed private company.

According to the police, the victim Govind Talwar(62) who retired recently was searching online for a job. During his search he interacted with a man on social media who offered him a job in a private company as a manager. The police said, to gain the victim's trust , the accused went to Talwar's home to meet him and promised him a good salary. The victim agreed to the offer.

"When the victim agreed for the job, the accused asked him to send a few documents and money as processing fees, which Talwar readily paid. However, the accused continued to ask more money under different pretexts. The accused kept sending Talwar an account number to transfer the amount. The victim sent money on several occasions to the tune of 8 lakh rupees. 

Soon after the money transfer the accused went incommunicado, and the victim never got the promised job. Hence, the victim approached us and lodged a complaint.," said a police officer from Nehru Nagar police station.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Information Technology act for cheating.
