Wife of Kalwa’s corporator, Carol Kamble, who was brutally assaulted by her husband on January 29 have alleged that the police have denied registering a domestic violence case against her husband for a week.

She said that the police have asked for a proof of the marriage instead of registering a case against her husband who belongs to the Shiv Sena. However, the cops say that they are following the routine legal procedure.
Carol has accused her husband, Ganesh Kamble, of various vices.

“My husband is a drunkard and into drugs.  Since past six months we are staying separately as he is having an affair,” she said.

“He visits us once a month or whenever he feels like.  But his visits are accompanied with bouts of quarrels and arguments bathed in drunken stupor which affects our children,” she added.

She alleged that her husband “tried to force himself” on her and upon refusal, he called his mother home on January 29. Later in the evening, things became turse as an argument became vilent between the husabnd and wife.

“He slapped me and then put a knife on my neck.  When my mother-in-law intervened he tried hitting her as well. I pushed him back when he banged my head on the kitchen wall.  Somehow I escaped from there when neighbors intervened,” she said.

Carol’s son reached out to the police during the incident and allegedly intervened to stop the fight.

However, when Carol went to register a case, the police refused to file the FIR. Instead, they lodged a non-cognisable offence and asked her for marriage proof.

Senior police inspector of Kalwa police station, Shekhar Bagase said that it is part of the legal procedure.
“Before taking any case we have to send the couple for counseling.  And today we are required to take all the documents like Aadhar card, mobile number, etc of the complainant,” said Bagase.

He added that Ganesh has a string of criminal cases against him and commented that the complaint was an attempt to drag the police in their “personal dispute”.  Ganesh kamble denied all allegations and allege that his wife’s bruises are“fake”.

“My advocate is looking into the matter and I am sending divorce papers to her,” he added.
