The selfie point at Dadar’s famous Shivaji Park turned into a battleground for political parties after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Sandip Deshpande shut it down owing to fund crunch under the corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Now, political parties have come forward and promised to set up the selfie point once again to take political mileage.

On Thursday afternoon, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mumbai President Ashish Shelar tweeted, “The selfie point in Shivaji Park will be continued by the BJP. Have a great time polishing your selfie skills.”

However, later in the evening, a ward officer visited the site and assured parties a solution and scheduled a meeting on Friday.

Interestingly, Deshpande, who shut down the selfie point tweeted after Shelar, saying that the selfie point will be maintained by MNS chief Raj Thackeray. “Rajsaheb’s orders will be followed and the selfie point will be maintained by him. Others don’t have to interfere in the matter.”

By evening, Sena corporator Vishakha Raut also put up a poster near the selfie-point with a message that her party will soon redevelop the project. Raut has been elected from ward number 191 in the recent civic body election. She defeated Deshpande’s wife Swapna.

Ajit Kadam, Shakha Pramukh of Shiv Senam said, “We waited for two days that the selfie point will be reset up again. But, they did not do it, so we have decided to set up it again.”

MNS leader Sandip Deshpande had set up the selfie point in 2014 with much funfare, which had became a huge hit with Mumbaikars, especially youngsters. The selfie point is quite popular among residents and they say that they do not know who will maintain but it should be set up again. Rakhi Patel, a resident of Dadar said, “We used to have good time while taking selfie. It should not be closed.”
