Can a seemingly ordinary man inspire people? Yes. There are countless heroes who may look like ordinary people but they contribute silently to the society in a meaningful way. They also inspire others and are able to change the lives of the less privileged. Late Shyam Nanadan Sahay was one such person. Neither did he feature in a TV programme, nor were his tales published in a newspaper. Yet, what the Allahabad bank branch manager from a small town like Dumka in Jharkhand did is a story worth telling.

He is the inspiration behind the concept of SEEtalks.

What is SEEtalks? "Sixteen people from contrasting fields with countless inspiring tales; 16 stories that will touch your heart — each told in exactly 16 minutes to impart lessons of a lifetime — are coming together on one platform," says the promotional video of the event. The inaugural session of SEEtalks will be held at the Experimental Theatre auditorium, NCPA, on June 16.

"It's a noble concept and it is a norm in the developed countries. I always feel that we need more events like this in India," says Aakash Chopra, former India cricketer who is going to be a Sutradhar for his mentor and Guru Tarak Sinha's 16-minute address. Sinha, one of the distinguished guests, will share his stories of an underdog in the highly competitive field of cricket coaching. He will be joined by fifteen other speakers.

"These are stories of positivity and excitement, hope and commitment, desire and fulfillment, inspiration and impact — stories that capture human imagination, determination and yearning to see the larger picture and continuously move towards one's dream," says Ashish Ambasta, founder of SEEtalks along with three of his friends.

"Our genes as humans are driven by individual inclination to spot concerns, problems and hindrance around anything they SEE or experience. However, there are instances were individuals could SEE and achieve what an average person couldn't even imagine," says Ambasta.

The event organisers are quick to dismiss any comparison and similarities with the TedTalks, though they concede that it has influenced them deeply.

Part of School of Entrepreneurial Education (SEE www.see.org.in), SEEtalks is a not for profit establishment that exists with a mission to help people explore their ideas through mentoring, funding, educating and inspiring through events like this.
