The Worli police on Thursday traced the taxi driver who had fled from the spot on February 10 after his passenger had jumped off the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL). The police are yet to trace the body and are still probing to ascertain the identity of the youth who had jumped to death.

What happened on Thursday?
Taxi driver Uday Narayan Jha was picked up from his Antop Hill residence and his statement was recorded by the police in the matter.
After going through the CCTV feeds installed at the sea link, the police managed to trace Jha.

What did the driver say in his statement to the police?
According to Jha, on February 10 at around 5.10 pm, a youth had hired his taxi (MH-01-JA-3968) from the area near Maratha Mandir cinema at Mumbai Central. The passenger said he wanted to go to Bandra and asked Jha to take the sea link route.

An officer from Worli police station said: “As soon as the cab reached the sea link, the passenger asked Jha to stop the vehicle. Before Jha could realise anything, the passenger came out of the cab and jumped from the sea link. After the incident, Jha fled from the spot due to fear.”

Have the cops zeroed in on the youth's identity?
The police also learned that a missing person's complaint was registered at Parksite police station, and cops suspected the sea link suicide youth to be the same.
“On February 7, one Shailesh Laxman Kadam, 31, had gone missing. We initially suspected him to be the one who had committed suicide from the BWSL, but we later realised the description did not match. Efforts are being made to trace body of the youth,” the officer added.
