Scuffle in Virar-Bandra train, RPF intervenes

An ugly scuffle broke out on a crowded Virar-Bandra slow local train at Vasai on Saturday morning, when three women who were in the train initially tried to prevent another woman from boarding and later assaulted her.

An ugly scuffle broke out on a crowded Virar-Bandra slow local train at Vasai on Saturday morning, when three women who were in the train initially tried to prevent another woman from boarding and later assaulted her. In her complaint, the assaulted woman also said she was bitten during the scuffle, and that her hands were bleeding as a result.

Prabha Prabhudeva, a 24-year-old Nallasopara resident boarded the 7.31am Virar-Bandra slow train from Nallasopara to reach her office in Goregaon, when the three women identified as 38-year-old Mashuda Akedali, 20-year-old Ajitababi Kismatali, and 35-year-oldTanuja Mandal, allegedly tried to block her entry, leading to a verbal duel. The heated argument took an ugly turn at Vasai railway station when the three women ganged up to assault the complainant and allegedly tried to push her out of the train.

“They kept on pulling my hair and were trying to push me out of the train. When I managed to hang on, they bit my hand. When the other commuters tried to stop them, they abused them too”, said Prabha Prabhudeva, the victim.
“A female commuters soon alerted the police, and I was given first aid at Bhayander railway station and a medical examination was conducted,” said Prabhudeva.

“They asked the three women to get down from the train and I filed a formal complaint in this regard as they showed no remorse after assaulting me severely,” she said.

Mahesh Bagwe, Inspector, Vasai, Government Railway Police (GRP), said, “We booked the three women under sections 323(voluntarily causing hurt), 504(intentional insult), 506(criminal intimidation) and 34(common intent) of the Indian Penal Code.”

Last week, women commuters in a Dahanu-Churchgate local had shut the doors of the ladies compartment to prevent commuters from from boarding it at Virar, leading to a scuffle. The GRP and RPF had to intervene.
