Schools and junior colleges in the city will remain shut today as per the directions of the state education department to allow teachers to vote for elections to the graduate and teachers constituencies. The University of Mumbai has also asked its 700-plus affiliated colleges and its departments to grant special leave to teachers and other staff members so that they can vote for the elections.

While most schools and junior colleges will remain shut on Monday, schools said they were confused regarding the direction as it came only on Friday by which time it was too late for them to inform students about the holiday. There are over 10,000 and 80,000 voters for the teachers and graduate constituencies respectively.
