The National Independent Schools Alliance (Nisa) has sent a letter to education minister Vinod Tawde, suggesting that the reimbursement vouchers should be directly provided to private school students under the Right to Education (RTE) quota, instead of through the school authorities. According to Nisa, most schools have not received the reimbursement from the government since 2013.

Last Thursday, four Nisa members met Tawde to discuss the quality of education in the state. They discussed a couple of issues with the minister, one of which was making provisions for reimbursement vouchers to students coming from economically weaker sections (EWS) of the society. As much as 25 per cent of seats in private and aided schools are reserved under the RTE quota.
Nisa general secretary and Center for Civil Society associate director, Amit Chandra, said, "We came to know that many schools have not been reimbursed by the government since 2013-14. So we decided to meet the minister and discuss the problems that schools face. The minister has shown interest in our idea of providing reimbursement vouchers to students. These vouchers can be cleared only for schools, and after they have been deposited in their or their parents' bank account."
Nisa public relations officer Anil Garg, who is also a trustee of the Charkop-based St Mary School, said, "Being a trustee of one of the schools, I know what problems the schools face when the government fails to reimburse them for students admitted under the RTE quota. Most students under the quota have to face embarrassment. If the voucher system is started for students, at least these students can get admission in schools of their choice and near their houses."
