A 15-year-old boy allegedly died of electrocution while he was on a school picnic in a resort in Madh in Malad (West). The incident happened on Saturday afternoon. The deceased, Haider Ali Sayyed, was a class X student of Jafari English High School in Shivaji Nagar. He had gone for the picnic along with several other students, teachers and school staff to Saina resort, situated off Patil Wadi Road in Madh Marve. A case has been registered against the resort management by the Malwani police.

According to the police, around 4.30pm on Sunday, Sayyed was found lying unconscious on a lawn near a filtration pump and an electric pole inside the resort premises. The police suspect that the boy may have touched the live wire located next to the pump.

Prakash Patil, senior PI of Malwani police, said, "All the students were playing water games at that time. He may have touched the wire attached to the pole after a swim. The area where his body was found is a restricted area. We are trying to find out how he managed to drift away and go to an isolated spot in the resort."

After finding him lying unconscious, the school staff suspected that he may have suffered an epileptic attack and gave him some primary medical aid. "When the boy did not respond, he was taken to Atlantic hospital where he was declared dead before admission. A black mark was found on his hand and the postmortem reports revealed that he died of electrocution," added Patil.

More than 300 students along with 29 teachers, staff and principal of the school had gone to the resort. The police does not suspect any foul play. A case of causing death due to negligence under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the resort management.

Balsingh Rajput, DCP of Zone 11, said, "We have registered a case against the resort administration. We are questioning the management and also inquiring with the students and staff to understand the sequence of events. No arrests have been made so far."

Sayyed lived in Govandi with his mother and two sisters. His father works in Dubai.
