St. Joseph High School at Umerkhadi will now make it optional for parents to send their children for school picnic. The school has also changed the venue of the much disputed picnic and have decided to take primary school students to Wobble Kidzo at Lower Parel instead of Thane's amusement park.

Earlier, DNA reported that the school made it mandatory for children to attend the picnic and failing to attend the picnic would result in loss of marks. The school had planned a picnic for students of class I, II and III at Tikuji-Ni-Wadi, an amusement park and resort near Thane that had a swimming pool and water slides which led to parents being worried.

The school authorities informed the parents on Saturday when they had called a parents' meeting in the school to discuss matters regarding the matter. The authorities told the parents that they could have directly addressed the problem with the authorites instead of approaching the newspaper.

The parents said that the DNA report made an impact on the school authorities to change their attitude.
