At a time when number of Marathi schools is coming down, one Marathi school building in K-ward was demolished without any intimation to civic education department. The school building was located at Oshiwara in K-east ward and the school building was demolished in 2014.

Now, the improvement committee of BMC has sought a detail report how the school building was demolished without informing the civic education department.

The civic body had constructed a school on private land in Oshiwara in K west ward and made it operational in 1996 after an agreement with plot owner. However, in August 2002, the school building was declared dangerous and students were moved to other schools. But, the civic body continued to pay rent of the land to its owner. The school building had eight classroom apart from a separate teachers' and a principal's room.

In 2014, the building was demolished by the land owner and the civic education department was not informed about it. “Since the school building was constructed by civic body and the land owner was getting rent, the land owner cannot demolish without the civic body's permission,” said Raju Pendnekar, former Shiv Sena corporator and member of improvement committee, who had brought the matter to civic chief and the improvement committee and sought reservation of the plot for school building in 2015.

As the land where the school was constructed falls under MMRDA , the BMC had little say. Pednekar said, “My concern was that the plot may not be used for purposes other than school. So, I had sought reservation of the plot for school and brought the matter to the improvement committee then,” said Pednekar.

The proposal of reservation of the plot was brought on the improvement committee and members sought that there should be reservation of the plot. Anant Nar, chairman of the improvement committee, said, “Due to some technical reasons, the issue could not be sorted out. However, we will solve the technical issues and use the plot for school only. We will also see that how the school building was demolished without informing the civic body.”
