That Sanjay Dutt is currently out on a 14-day furlough is known to all. The Munnabhai actor was granted a temporary leave from December 24. Not only has he been seen at private outings with wife Manyata and PK team including Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, he also threw a New Year bash. Now, while his 14-day leave was almost about to end, the actor is said to have asked for a yet another extension to his furlough.

Dutt has sent an official application in request to extend his furlough. Yerawada jail superintendent Yogesh Desai said, "Every inmate who comes out on a furlough, applies for a 14-day extension, which he is entitled to. We have received his application for an extension and it is under process."

The actor has by far served 42 months from his 5-year jail sentence for illegal possession of arms in 1993 serial blasts. However, out of them, his 118 days have conveniently passed being either out on parole or furlough since May 2013-May 2014.

This leniency of the home department of Maharashtra state towards Dutt was already being questioned by the the Bombay High Court in February last year. Citing protests from various organisations, the High Court had even warned the government that the diligence shown in granting Dutt's requests was not seen in cases of other convicts.
