In a major reshuffle, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Monday appointed Sandeep Deshpande as the party group leader in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The rejig comes soon after Thackeray reshuffled party office-bearers in Thane and Nasik.
An aggressive and young corporator from Dadar, Deshpande will replace Dilip Lande in the BMC.
The party hopes that Deshpande, a former civic standing committee member, will help the party stronghold in Dadar where all the seven electoral wards are represented by the MNS.
According to reports, Thackeray felt that Lande was not aggressive enough against the Shiv Sena over the recent Dockyard Road building collapse. Two-term corporator Lande, however, claimed he had requested the party bosses to relieve him of the post over a month ago. “I would now like to play the new role our leader (Thackeray) would offer me ahead of the polls,” Lande said.
