Former standing committee chairman and Vashi corporator Sampat Shewale has dismissed allegations made by Indian Youth Congress as being “politically motivated”, and said his son Sachin is an independent person having no connection with him.

“My son Sachin is an independent adult. He stays at a different location, and has got his own ration card. He is undertaking contracts on his own. I am not related to his company,” said Shewale when asked for his reaction to the demand made by Congress.

Shewale added, “I filed an affidavit before the elections, clearly stating these things. My son has been living separately since before I contested the elections last time.”

The former standing committee chairman also dismissed the charge that M/S SoBest Services and Suraj Enterprises were owned by the Shewales. “It is absolutely wrong. SoBest is owned by one Sunil Mahadev Shete and Suraj Enterprises is owned by Sachin.”

When Shewale’s attention was drawn to the fact that both companies have given the same address, he replied, “Sachin Shewale has nothing to do with SoBest, and the proprietor of that company is an entirely different person.” However, Sampat Shewale did not explain how two different companies had the same address on NMMC records.

As far as getting contracts go, Shewale said, “It is the civic body’s policy to give work in 6 blocks to one company and accordingly, Suraj Enterprises is doing work in 5 blocks. As far as I am concerned, I have not broken any law to get work.”

Asked about increasing cases of dengue and malaria in the city, Shewale, who emphasised that he will speak in his capacity as corporator, said, “Cases of malaria and dengue are on a rise because we received more than average rainfall and also because of the water accumulating in the storm water drains, which should otherwise be dry after 4 months of rains. Fumigation is being carried out twice in a day and the menace will be controlled in the days to come.”

Meanwhile, Shewale did not fail to mention that transporting garbage in open trucks was responsible for a declining in the quality of health too. The proposal of garbage collection and transportation has been caught in a legal tangle ever since city Congress lodged a complaint with CM Prithviraj Chavan.
