A 32-year-old fan of actor Salman Khan allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming some poisonous substance outside the high court premises on Friday morning. The fan, who was carrying a bottle of the liquid he drank, had come from Bandra to show his support for Khan. He is undergoing treatment at GT hospital.

The victim has been identified as Navrang Raghunath Kundu, resident of Bharat Nagar slums in Bandra (East).

According to the police, the incident occurred between 11.45am and 12pm on Friday. "Kundu was standing outside the court with other supporters of the actor and was sloganeering in his support. He was also carrying a placard that read 'Salman is my God'," said an officer from Azad Maidan police station.

The officer added that all of a sudden Kundu took out a bottle carrying some liquid and consumed it.

"He became dizzy, after which others in the crowd brought the matter to the notice of the policemen on bandobast duty at the spot. Kundu was taken to GT hospital immediately. The bottle has been seized and doctors are trying to ascertain the content of the substance he drank," the officer said.

The police suspect the act seems to have been planned and are in the process of informing Kundu's family about it.

Kundu's condition is stable. He was conscious on admission to the hospital. "The patient was given emergency medical treatment. The poisonous substance was aspirated from his stomach and he was administered drugs and medication. He is under observation," said Dr DR Kulkarni, medical superintendent, GT hospital.
