The judge presiding over the 2002 hit-and-run case allegedly involving actor Salman Khan remarked that the case had gone on long enough and must be wrapped up by the end of December.
"It's been almost 13 years since this case began, it should end by December-end," held the court presided by Justice D W Deshpande, who is conducting the trial in the case. The court passed the statement when the advocate appearing on behalf of the actor pleaded for the court to direct the prosecution to provide the defence with a list of witnesses who would depose before court in connection with the case.

What did the defence ask for?
Advocate Srikant Shivade, who appeared on behalf of the actor, claimed that the defence had been asking for a list of witnesses for quite a long time, however, the prosecution had failed to provide with the same. "The main reason for seeking the list of witnesses is because we need to know the days when the actor's presence is mandatory in court. If we know that the prosecution is going to examine formal witnesses, then in such case there is no need for the actor to be present before the court," argued advocate Shivade.

Delay tactic, says prosecution
However this was strongly opposed by the prosecution, alleging that it is a delay tactic adopted by the defence. Special public prosecutor, Pradeep Gharat argued, "Defence had undertaken on the last hearing that the actor would be present in court on November 24 (Monday)."
The court, after going through the evidence, held that the witnesses are not new witnesses, their names are already there in the charge sheet. "During the trial, the evidence should be recorded, but it is digressing from the main issue. It's been almost 13 years since this case is going on, it should end by December-end."

Two witnesses examined
Meanwhile, the prosecution, on Monday, examined two witnesses, of which one was an insurance agent and other was the owner of American Express Laundry. The insurance agent was asked to identify the copies of insurance papers, while the other was said that he had seen Salman while passing Hill Road a few times.
The court has now adjourned the matter to December, when the prosecution is likely to examined a motor vehicle inspector and chemical analysis expert. The court has asked he actor to remain present on the next date.
