Residents of Saket housing society have urged the city's traffic department to stop tourist buses and trucks from plying on Saket Road as other than causing traffic nuisance, the tourist vehicles have also started taking 'loo' breaks on the road.

In a bold move, shaming people who urinate on the road, the residents have put up posters across the street saying, 'Shame on you', 'Don't urinate here' and 'Don't spoil our surrounding'.

Dayanand Nene, chairman, Saket complex said, " We have been following up the issue on stopping the movement of heavy vehicles on Saket road but despite repeated assurances there has been no change in the ground reality as nuisance continues unabated. Also to add to it this new problem has sprung up."

He further added, "Tourist buses have now started halting right opposite to our society building for toilet breaks. In the morning till 9am and in the evening 6:30pm onwards, these buses stop and passengers pee on the road. Looking at them, truck drivers too have started following the suit"

Residents further complain that passengers not only take loo breaks but also pass lewd comments on morning and evening walkers. In addition, it is an unhygienic and dirty sight that spoils the sanctity of the surrounding.

As a solution to this, we have instructed our watchmen and security guards to ask passengers not to halt on the road as it is a residential area. While some passengers listen to them others don't and they end up picking picking up fights with the drivers and other passengers.

The residents will also put up banners along the road asking the bus drivers to not stop in the locality. They have also asked the officials to do the needful regarding the same or they shall take to practices like 'Rasta Roko' andolan.

"Rather than going through Saket road, the vehicles should use the Nashik Road-Kharegaon Toll Naka - Retibunder -Mumbra and Bypass Road,"added the residents.

Though traffic cops had earlier issued a circular regarding time restrictions on heavy vehicles who compled to it for a few days but are back to doing the same old thing now.

"The traffic department, agreeing on our suggestions, had banned heavy vehicles from plying between Balkum to Kalwa bridge between 7am-11pm till the construction work continued but the norms have been forgotten and for past few days we are facing traffic snarls across the stretch." added Nene.

He said that though they have taken up the matter, a blame game has started and nobody is ready to take a call on the situation.

P Matadhikari, acp, traffic division commented, "Notification has been issued to all the concerned officials and we will make sure that they follow the direction. No other vehicles except for local are allowed to play on this road at a particular time. The construction work being done on the road will put an end to the traffic problems there and be a blessing for the residents"
