An FIR has been filed against two cardiologists of the multi-speciality hospital at Shirdi run by the Sai Baba Sansthan Trust for a case of money laundering to the tune of Rs4 crore.
The case has been filed by the trust after the high court directives. The two doctors, both cardiologist, were suspended from the duty in 2014, after charges were levelled against them. Meanwhile, Sanjay Kale, an RTI activist and a medical representative by profession who sought the information had realised that there were discrepancies in the purchase of stents used for angioplasty of patients.
Kale then filed a criminal writ petition in the Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court and had submitted people's complaints. After the petition was filed, the high court had asked the trust to file an FIR.
In the complaint, the two doctors have been alleged to have taken illegal commission in the purchase of the stents by the hospital, they have used stents by only one company, thus favouring the company and causing loss to the trust. They were also charged for having conducted angioplasties on patients even when angioplasty was not required.
People have complaints against the two doctors or not taking proper care of patients post angioplasty and discharging them from the hospital within 24 hours of procedure, for allowing their personal assistants in the Cath lab and not fumigating the lab properly, not following standard clinical procedures, etc., Kale stated.
While the police said that the FIR has been lodged and investigation is being done, no arrests have been made so far.
The medical facility at Shirdi, run by the trust, is well known as it enables even poor patients to get medical aid at low rates. Surgeries and particularly, heart surgeries are done commonly at the hospital for which people from all over the state come to Shirdi.
