The Social Service Branch (SSB) of city police have busted a prostitution racket involving a Russian national and an aspiring model. The police have arrested two pimps, including a woman from a three-star hotel in Andheri, where woman were being forced into prostitution.

According to the police, the Russian (27), had come to India three months ago on a tourist visa. "She had met a Maharashtrian man abroad a few months ago who promised her modelling assignments in India. When she came to India, the man gave her the contact of a Delhi-based man, who is a pimp. The Delhi-based man then forced her into flesh trade. The foreigner had been to India thrice earlier," said an SSB officer.

As per Pravin Patil, deputy commissioner of police, enforcement, specific information was received by the SSB that a Delhi-based pimp was in touch with his Mumbai-based associates and were communicating about providing foreign nationals for flesh trade. These women are then provided to customers in various guest houses and hotels in Andheri and Powai.

"We then contacted the Mumbai-based pimps through our dummy customers. The pimps then stated that they would provide a foreign national for Rs50,000 and an Indian girl for Rs25,000. A hotel at Andheri-Kurla Road was then fixed for the meeting place. Around 10.55pm on Thursday, a raid was conducted in the said hotel room. Two pimps and two girls, including a foreign national were held in the raid," said Rajdoot Rupavate, assistant commissioner of police, SSB.

While the rescued girls have been sent to a shelter home, the pimps have been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act.

"The case has been handed over to the MIDC police and we have briefed them on how to take the case forward as this seems to be a big racket involving foreign nationals," said another SSB officer.
