Fearing parental anger for leaving their homes in Nashik without informing them, three teens found near Thane station came up with a false kidnapping story. However, after they were reunited with their parents by Thane traffic police on Tuesday, they revealed the truth.

Around 7.30pm on Monday evening, traffic constable SN Chaudhary was on duty near Thane railway station when he saw three children – later identified as Nikhil Jadhav (14), Vishal Jadhav (15) and Kunal Savale (12) – screaming "help... help" in Marathi. When Chaudhary inquired with them, they told him that they were residents of Ashoknagar in Satpur area of Nashik.

"The children claimed that three people in a white car met them in Nashik. The unknown trio then put on their noses handkerchiefs laced with chloroform and kidnapped them. They drove all the way and stopped near Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar statue outside Thane station, where the kidnappers dropped them and fled," said a Thane traffic police officer.

The cops believed their story and asked for their parents' contact numbers. "After they gave their phone numbers we contacted the parents, who reached here at 11pm on June 6," he said.

After being reunited with their parents, they revealed the truth that startled everyone. The children said that without informing their parents they had left their homes to come to Thane just for fun. When they reached Thane in the evening, they started missing their homes.

"The children feared that if they called up their parents and informed about their whereabouts, they will be angry and pull them up. Hence, to avoid parental outburst, they cooked up the kidnapping story," said Rashmi Karandikar, DCP, Thane traffic police.

After the reunion, the parents refused to lodge any complaint and left for their homes.
