"Dahisar toll post has been scrapped from September 18 and motorists should not pay toll, which is being collected illegally." This message that has been circulating since Friday evening. But there is not even an iota of truth in it.

There are five entry points of Mumbai - Dahisar, Vashi, Airoli, Mulund (LBS Road) and Mulund (Eastern Express Highway) and each has a toll post. The Mumbai Entry Points Private Limited, is the agency responsible for the collection of toll for all the five posts since November 2010.

The agency was also authorised to maintain 27 bridges on vehicular subways on Eastern and Western Highways as well as on Sion-Panvel Highway. As per the agreement between MSRDC and MEP, Rs2,100 crore was to be paid to MSRDC. This contract is ending only in 2026.

"The message that is being circulated about Dahisar toll being scrapped is incorrect because no such decision has been taken," clarified Jayant Mhaiskar, managing director, MEP.

Moreover, under the toll collection policy drafted by the state, only those toll projects that are within Rs 100-150 crore, will be bought back by the state government. Not a single toll post in and around Mumbai is mentioned in the buy back list prepared by the state.
