Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on Tuesday arrested a senior engineer from the Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board (BRRB) of the MHADA office at Tardeo, and a private person, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to approve the civil work bill of a contractor.

The arrested persons are BRRB branch engineer Mahesh Ajandas Motwani, 51, and Nitin Prabhakar Dalvi, 40.

According to the police, the 52-year-old complainant is a civil contractor and he works as a sub-contractor of M/S Mayuresh Mazdur Sahakari Sanstha Ltd. To approve the complainant's civil work bill, Motwani demanded a bribe amount of Rs 35,000.

"After receiving the complaint at ACB Mumbai Unit, verification of the allegation was done in which it was revealed that after negotiation, Motwani demanded and agreed to accept Rs 15,000 from the complainant. A trap was laid at the Tardeo office of BRRP in which Nitin Dalvi was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 15,000 on behalf of Motwani," said an ACB official, on the request of anonymity.

The duo was produced before Special ACB Court on Wednesday which remanded them to ACB custody till April 27.
