A 21-year-old youth has submitted an application with the Mumbai railway police against a Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel alleging that he had refused to help a man who had fallen into a platform gap at Dadar railway station on Sunday.

According to complainant Jugnu Singh, a student, Mangesh Chavan was trying to board a Churchgate-bound train from platform number 2 when he slipped into the gap. Singh added that he had alighted from the same train at Dadar and witnessed the incident. While Chavan, a milk delivery man, was trapped in the gap, the train left the platform.

"The man had fractured his ribs and sustained multiple injuries. He was finding it difficult to lift himself. His wife and children, who were with him, were in a state of shock. I spotted two RPF personnel on the platform; one of them was in uniform. I asked them if they could arrange for a stretcher as the victim was in a bad shape. The two men plainly said that it was not their job and walked off. I could not think of what to do and waited for sometime to see if any help would arrive but nothing happened," the complaint said.

Finally, with the help of four people, two women and two men, Singh lifted Chavan, put him in a taxi and rushed him to KEM Hospital.

The family then informed their friends and relatives about the incident. The relatives, along with Singh, went to RPF outpost at Dadar station. However, they were told that it was not a part of their job. Following this, Singh went to the Mumbai Central railway police and submitted a written complaint.

However, a senior RPF official said that the RPF personnel had helped the victim and that these were just allegations.

Another senior railway police official said that the area does not have CCTV cameras. As per their information, the two RPF personnel had informed their seniors about the incident and following this they rushed Chavan to the hospital.
